Artist Statement

We are the sum of our experiences. Without unique individual experiences, we would not encounter the beauty of this world as it exists in the viewer of a kaleidoscope. My interest in painting is to work past the mundane familiarity of everyday objects and to re-envision them so that viewers can embrace their beauty in a new way. To me, painting is about turning the kaleidoscope so that a new pattern emerges. I want to give the viewer a vague sense of deja vu in my work as a subtle reminder that regardless of where you are and who you interact with, there will always be some aspect of familiarity due to cross cultural interaction. I believe it takes an air of clarity to fully realize something. I plan on re-envisioning objects such as glass bottles, street scenes, and the natural environment. The objects and scenes that make up our experiences of the world should not take away from the world, but rather add to it in a constructive way. I aim to be a part of that construction.
